Day 10- A song by your favorite band
All About Us by He is We
I realized that most of the singers I like are pretty much solo, but He is We is the only actual band that I’d put in my top 5. I went to see them at the beginning of this month and they were wonderful! They sound even better live than on my recorded version, and they’re actually pretty funny people :) The lead singer, Rachel Taylor, talked about the inspiration for each of the songs she wrote as she performed them.
Seriously, if you haven’t heard of them, you should check them out.
Day 09- A song that makes you hopeful
God of This City by Chris Tomlin
I put this song on the mixed CD I made for Justin when he left for the same reason I really like this song: because it reminds me that through God, all things are possible. He oversees all and I know that even if something seems stressful and bad at one time, it’ll all end up being okay. God is just too good.
Day 08- A song that reminds you of your “first love”
Halo by Beyonce
I’m really glad it’s “first love” and not first love. I think we’ve all had that one person that we thought was “the one” and were too young and immature to see otherwise. I’m totally over it, but I definitely fell into that trap.
This was the first song we slow danced to. After liking him for so long, this was a dream come true for me. I remember thinking that nothing could be more perfect. I remember what happened when it came time to dance.
Me- “I’ve never slow danced with a guy before…”
Him- “It’s okay. Me neither.”
For the longest time, I couldn’t listen to this song. I think still now, it feels weird listening to it.
Day 07- A song that reminds you of the past summer
California Gurls by Katy Perry
We’re still in this summer, so I took the past summer to mean 2010.
First of all, this is just THAT song. Like this song was everywhere and it was upbeat and catchy. Just listening to this song makes me think of the beach.
Also, I met a lot of non-Californian friends last summer and it was fun seeing that the differences were. I mean there were some huge changes like when I met people from Hong Kong and China, to smaller, less significant differences in Toronto. I enjoy seeing these small things, but I’m still a proud California girl.
Day 06- A song that reminds you of a best friend
Who Says by Selena Gomez
Best friend #1- I walk into his room as he’s packing to go to Seattle for the summer and this is what’s playing, and I exclaim that Selena Gomez is amazing and that she’s my girl crush. Then his roommate proceeds to ask me if there’s something I need to share with them …. LOL
Best friend #2- Cuz he bought me the CD for my birthday :) and we just like Selena Gomez
To my 3 other best friends- because I love you guys and you should never give up no matter what anyone says :)
Day 05- A song that is often stuck in your head
Fly With Me by the Jonas Brothers
This is the only Jonas Brothers song I like, and it’s the one song that’s been stuck in my head for most of this summer.
Day 04- A song that calms you down
How He Loves by David Crowder Band
He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy
When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realise just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me
And O how He loves us
Oh, O how He loves us
How He loves us all
Yeah He loves us
O how He loves us
O how He loves us
O how He loves
We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking
So Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way
How great God’s love is for us.
Day 03- A song that reminds you of one/both of your parents
Dance With My Father Again by Luther VanDross
My mom listened to this song a lot when her dad died. and when I was in middle school, at graduation, we had a father daughter dance and this was the song.. haha
Day 02: A song that reminds you of your most recent ex-boyfriend
The Story of Us by Taylor Swift
gosh. the whole dang song pretty much says it, but I’ll pick out the good lines
I used to think one day we’d tell the story of us,
How we met and the sparks flew instantly,
People would say, “They’re the lucky ones.”
…
‘Cause lately I don’t even know what page you’re on.
…
Miscommunications lead to fall-out.
…
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now.
…
But you held your pride like you should’ve held me.
…
This is looking like a contest,
Of who can act like they care less
Day 01: A song from your childhood
So Yesterday by Hilary Duff
She was my favorite growing up. I followed her life like crazy and I watched every Lizzie McGuire episode at least three times.
day 10: Something you have realized about yourself since coming to Cal
This is my Berkeley challenge that I haven’t finished yet. I didn’t do this one because I thought I had a lot to say about it, but I think I’m just going to keep it simple.
I think something I realized about myself is how fortunate and average I am. First of all, I realized that I am so lucky to have a family that loves me and provides for me financially. I guess at Maranatha I didn’t think it was a big deal, but when I talk to people in Berkeley, I feel so spoiled, and I don’t like feeling that way. I’m trying my best to think more of others and to think before a speak so I don’t say something that sounds arrogant.
Secondly, I’ve realized that I’m so average. Throughout my life (that has pretty much been in a bubble), I’ve been pretty good at things. I guess I felt somewhat superior, but Berkeley has shown me how insignificant I am. I’m kind of pathetic actually. I just have to remember that just because I’m only going to be average doesn’t mean that I can’t shoot for the stars.
day 9- Do you have favorite Berkeley character? (specific homeless person, the “Happy Happy man”, the guy who holds “You’re perfect” sign, etc.) If so, what is it about him/her that you like?
In all honesty, I haven’t been in Berkeley long enough to have a favorite one of those characters, and I’ve been too scared to ever talk to any of them. With that being said, my answer to this question might be “cheating”.
I really like the male barista that is at The Den every morning. He’s always really friendly and asks how my day is or how my weekend was, even if it’s 7:30 am. He always has a smile on his face. I think the funniest thing is when he greets me “An-yeong-ha-se-yo” thinking that I’m Korean. There was even an article about him that they posted on the wall saying that he works and sends his paycheck home to his children, who do not live in America. I forget what country they’re from.. but he’s working hard for them. I hope that his children can come to America someday, but for now, I am grateful for the joy he showed this year to me.
day 8- One memory you would like to relive
GAH. I cannot pick just 1. How about my top 3 memories I’d relive?
1. Pledge Ditch- I love my pledge sisters so much and we did such an amazing job with capturing our president and pledge mom… only 2 weeks after pledging began. Most people reading this probably won’t understand how big of an accomplishment that is, but just believe me when I say it really caught everyone off guard :P
2. AGO Date Night Spring Semester 2011- I was really nervous when I heard we’d be swingdancing because I had only had one prior experience with it and it was super awkward. That night was a lot of fun just being able to hang out with my AGO brothers. It also made me realize that I really enjoy swingdancing and that it would be something I want to learn and get better at in college.
3. Relay for Life 2011- oh my gosh. First, I rapped Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass in front of hundreds of people while 3 of my sorority sisters danced (quite scandalously) in the background. That was ridiculous. Then we planned to leave at 11, but instead played telephone pictionary in the tent until about 12:30. Then, we played energy drink pong til 3:30. We were so hyper it was ridiculous. Love my ADX sisters so much <3
